Summer Friday Getaway #2: Seaside, Florida

For all you Southerners out there, Seaside is the perfect summer destination to beat the heat and get away. Located on the Florida panhandle along the scenic Highway 30A, Seaside has the white-est of white sand beaches, architecturally recognized cottages, and a community that champions a step back in time. With Southwest airlines now flying into Panama City Beach Airport (opens late May!), this gem of a location is now both easily accessible by car and plane.
The following post pays tributes to the RSP favs from this summer hot spot, suggests what to wear, what to bring, and where to go:
What to Wear: Seaside is the epitome of beach casual. Grab your understated beach tote, sandals, wide brim hat, shades, tunic/cover-up, and suit (pack a one piece to avoid those awkward work colleague run-ins sporting that bikini of yours) and you are ready to go.
What to Bring: Your latest beach read, towel, cash to get a Cabana Man set-up, Words with Friends Iphone App, beach gear (frisbee, bocce ball set, mini-football---bonus points for SEC related), best Key-lime pie recipe, and your tennis whites.
Where to Go:
- Barefoot Beach Barbeque: Great Southern eats. They'll deliver BBQ to you on the beach!
- The Beach: Call Cabana Man and get a beach set-up from 9-5.
- Modica Market: Wonderful market with local produce and goods.
- Sundog Books: The best place that you will ever find to find a Southern fiction read.
- Shops at Seaside: Shop for killer antiques, Southern home goods, and beach wear while strolling through town.
- Bud and Alleys: Great restaurant and upstairs bar overlooking the beach. Go there to grab a cold drink and grouper and grits.
